Fourth Edition
Spring is here and it’s time to shed those pandemic pounds we all gained binging episodes of our favorite series!
The good news is Keansburg might as well be a free gym!
Here are some KB fitness activities and the calories you can burn while having fun right here in the Borough By The Bay:
Walking the dog
Keansburg is a dog loving town! According to Wagwalking.com, while it ultimately depends on the pace and general temperament of the dog, a person of average weight can burn around 205 calories per hour of walking a dog at a leisurely pace of 2-mph, including potty and idle sniffing breaks.
Walk or Run on the sand
Take it to the beautiful Keansburg beaches! Walking in soft sand burns almost twice the amount of calories as walking the same distance on a flat surface. Activate your stabilizer muscles, and burn up to 350 calories in an hour of very brisk walking on soft sand. What to really go for it? Challenge yourself to a 40-minute run on soft sand to burn upwards of 530 calories. (fitreserve.com)
Go out for a spin!
Bike the Henry Hudson Trail! This 24-mile long trail is a former railroad right-of-way. Much of the trail is tree-lined, though some parts have views of surrounding wetlands, streams and fields.
A person may burn slightly more calories when bicycling outside. When Bicycling at a moderate pace outdoors the average person may burn 450-750 calories per hours! (healthline.com) Use the calculator at Caloriesburnedhq.com to enter the stats of your ride to find out how many calories you burned.
Go to the Batting Cages
Whether you are a baseball fan or not, hitting a few balls at your local batting cage is a fun and intense workout. Swinging the bat works the shoulders, core and arms. According to livestrong.com “a 150-pound adult can burn between 200 and 300 calories an hour hitting the ball.”
Batting cages are open Sat-Sun 10-6.
